Important information about the program and the application process is provided in a Q&A format.
Please read it carefully to fully understand the program requirements and to avoid submitting an incomplete application.

Eligibility
Who can apply for this program?
- Applicants must be beyond high school level. High school students are not eligible.
- The internship and lecture courses require full on-site participation. Applicants must be able to travel to the venue and attend the entire program on-site (no shortened participation period).
- Applicants must be enrolled in an academic institution or a company at the time of application and remain enrolled throughout the program period.
- Applicants who are on a gap year or not yet enrolled at the time of application must provide a certificate of enrollment from the institution or company they will be enrolled in during the Summer Program.
- Applicants who are not Japanese nationals must have a valid passport. If a visa is required to enter Japan, obtaining the visa is the participant’s responsibility.

Program Requirements
What are the requirements to complete the Internship Course (Plan A)?
- The internship must take place within the designated period (2 months: June 9–August 7, 2026) and cannot be adjusted for individual convenience.
- Attend and actively participate in all required laboratory activities throughout the course period.
- Attend the Neuroethics workshop included in the lecture schedule.
- Present a poster on your research at your home institution to facilitate scientific interaction during the lecture-course week.
- Give a presentation on your internship research at the end of the course.
- Submit the course survey at the conclusion of the internship.
Note: Failure to fulfill these requirements may result in the denial of financial support and the non-issuance of a certificate of attendance.
What are the requirements to complete the Lecture Course (Plan B)?
- Attend and actively participate in all program activities throughout the course period.
- Present a poster on your research at your home institution to facilitate scientific interaction.

Poster Preparation
What kind of poster do I need to prepare?
- Participants are required to prepare and print a poster that represents their research (past, present, or future) at their current institution.
- Poster board size: 876 mm (Width) x 1643 mm (Height), A0 portrait (vertical) orientation.
Costs and Financial Support
Is there a registration fee or any costs that applicants should expect?
- There is no registration fee to apply for the program.
- Participants are responsible for meal expenses and other daily living costs.
- Participants who do not receive financial support must arrange and pay for their own airfare, domestic transportation, and accommodation.
What kind of financial support can the program offer?
Financial support may be provided to applicants who submit a financial support request at the time of application and whose request is approved upon acceptance to the program.
Approved participants may receive support for:
- Round-trip airfare or bullet train (Shinkansen) fare
- Accommodation expenses during the program period
Airfare and domestic transportation must be purchased by the participant in advance.
Reimbursement will be made after the required documents are submitted upon return to your home country.
Please note the following:
- *There is a maximum reimbursement amount for airfare and transportation depending on the participant’s region of departure; therefore, the full amount may not be reimbursed in some cases.
- Participants who receive a salary or other financial support are not eligible for financial support under this program.
- Participants who do not submit a financial support request, or whose request is not approved, will not be reimbursed for any travel or accommodation expenses.
- Participants must follow the program’s travel itinerary and regulations. Any additional costs incurred due to personal travel arrangements must be paid by the participant.
- More detailed information about financial support and travel arrangements will be provided to successful applicants.
*There is a maximum amount for each region for flight ticket reimbursement.

Insurance and Medical Exam(For Internship Course Participants)
What are the insurance and medical requirements?
- All Internship Course participants are required to purchase accident insurance at their own expense and responsibility. Please check whether your affiliation provides insurance coverage.
- A medical examination must be completed within six months prior to departure for Japan. The form must be completed by a physician in either English or Japanese.
On-campus Lodging: I-House
What are the basic policies for staying at I-House?
- The organizing office will assign room types based on the number of successful candidates. In principle, each participant will be allocated a single room. Participants cannot choose their room type.
- Participants are not allowed to stay with family members or friends who are not part of the Summer Program. If you would like to stay with someone who is not a Summer Program participant, please arrange accommodation off campus.

How and when will I be informed of the selection results?
Selection results will be announced by email around mid-February.
Can I request feedback on the selection results?
Individual feedback on selection results will not be provided.
What is the next step after receiving the acceptance notification?
- The program office will contact each successful candidate and provide guidance on the required procedures for participation.
- Please note that receiving an acceptance notification does not automatically guarantee your enrollment in the program. In some cases, a visa may not be granted in time due to political issues or the current global situation, which may prevent you from participating in the program.
